Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Mr KTR have said the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will soon commence capping works (construction of box drains) to avoid any untoward incidents.

Speedy Capping Works of Hyderabad Nalas

MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao indicated GHMC officials to begin capping work for drains soon. These works of capping drains will be carried out on nalas less than two metres wide. The officials had been given instructions for an action plan to complete the work in due course, adding that the works would be completed at the cost of almost Rs 300 crore.

The administrative approval for Rs 300 crore would be shortly granted, adding that the government will soon provide all permissions and the requisite support for the immediate implementation of the infrastructure works.

The majority of Nalas are located in densely populated areas which are less than two metres wide, and officials are requested to take all precautions to avoid unpleasant accidents. In cases where capping work was not carried out, which is more than two metres long, for that officers are instructed to take up fencing activity in line with the National Green Tribunal and the Supreme Court guidelines.

Although the GHMC has the details of Nalas across its limits, the Minister wanted officials to concentrate on new areas and incorporate new nalas, in particular through the extension of the city's limits to new locations.
